In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians and the community, School Counselors are professional school advocates who promote the support system to maximize student potential and academic achievement as they prepare toward becoming successful 21st-century citizens.
GASC's Beliefs: The Professional School Counselors believe every child can learn and that all students have an equal right to access a certified school counselor and to participate in a comprehensive school counseling program designed to ensure student success. The following principles are the foundation for the school counseling program: • All students’ ethnic, cultural, racial differences and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school wide program. • There is a collaborative effort among the school counselors, administration and teachers to coordinate with parents and the community. • Various assessments are used to develop and continually evaluate the effectiveness of the program. • Classroom lessons and activities are based on the GDOE Guidance Curriculum (K-12), which incorporates the academic, career and social domains. • School counselors adhere to ethical standards and regularly participate in professional development activities.
